I agree. Marcy Playground didn't leave much room to read between the lines. And as far as why would they write about the opium wars in the 1800's? Maybe the frontman liked history as a kid...

we probably had the same teacher than. did you also see a video for "russians love their children too"?
MIGDHORSE (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
is there an echo in here? so... what is the song "opium" by marcy playground about then? oh it must be yet ANOTHER song about the opium wars, right? now why would an american band from the 90's (primetime heroin and opiate abuse era) care so much to write a song about a history lesson? pretty sure it has a deeper meaning than that, buddy. but go ahead and continue your g-rated line of thought.

Yeah its obvious the song is about opium wars in the 1800's, but there are some ppl out there that would argue with a fence post even if they knew they were wrong. So end the end does it really matter what the song is about? Its a cute and good song just sit back and enjoy it and quit fussing. Much love Mandi

this song is about the opium wars in the 1800's and does not condone heroin use or drug use in any way like some of you assholes think
