Saw them in Sheffield last night. Were superb! They finished with this and Warren Ellis made some howlin' screams on his violin before playing the flute!

I wouldn't go that far it's music mythology now and in a way it makes Lee Shelton immortal his story will forever be remade in song good or bad, I consider it a companion legend too Robert Johnson who sold his soul too the Devil at the crossroads so he could play a mean guitar and as myth has it spawn rock&roll.

Actually this is an old blues song about folk hero Stagger lee, he was the meanest, baddest, black mutha fucka too ever walk God's green earth. Sam Jackson did a version of the song in Black Snake Moan and it has been in African American folklore for quite some time.
