Thought from the eye closes the understanding, but thought from the understanding opens the eye. E.S.

So, the real question, are you free from it, or entrapped by it? What's the greater trick of the brain.. natural enlightenment, or entanglement with thought?
Rysuko (August 18, 2008 at 9:30 pm)
I figure the brain and the mind are two different things. The brain serves physical functions both conscious and unconscious, and the mind is an abstract creation made of thought processes. Only the mind is capable of the analytical doubt that's holding you back. Enlightenment (to me, and IMO at the moment) is not the eradication of thought and mind, but it is the 'freedom' from it.. to be at peace with whatever answers you may find in your inquiries. Belief isn't necessary.. it's just thoughts.

How does he know what he is doing is enlightment?

Its wonderfull those doubts are raising in you.
Observing and inquiring oneself is the basis for true meditation. "Who am I?"
Only when you truly realize what is the mind and what is you - your real I - those doubts will go away. We can only find that in the silence of the present moment that is beyond the noise of our mind. This is meditation.

Just to sum up - what I'm saying is that 'awareness' could just be a trick of the 'brain' being self-aware - meanwhile spiritual teachers insist it is actually spirit that is one with All.
This is my own personal stumbling block and I can't see it going away.
