I think he or she just meant that it was their favourite song of the ones she sings. It's certainly an American song although I thought it was an old sea shanty that went back further than the Civil War even. Maybe it had bits added then. What's for sure is that it's a timeless classic of a song.

This is a beautiful song that is not actually "her's", its an old song from the American Civil War. She sings it wonderfully though :)
