The relationship is parental. He is the loving Father and I am HIS child. Its true that the LORD does not need any pleasing or flattery. But the devotee out of his deep love for HIM wants to do so. And finally he will forget his small "I" and will merge with HIM. Maybe one could reach the same goal through other means. But I am a devotee and I prefer to do it so. And I do not mind when others don't feel the same.
