Infelismente um músico como ele, não tem o espaço que merece neste nosso Brasil...
E como ele temos tantos...Paulinho da Viola, Almir Sater, Egberto Gismonti...

Pat loves Belo Horizonte, my city or our city, 'cause Toninho was born hier too. The Toninho/Clube da Esquina's influences is real and Pat ever saw this, no problem. Pat came hier and at the beginning of the show he saw "I can't believe: I'm Belo Horizonte; hier ist the best music of the world"! He plays all night, at the next day, and the teatro people couldn't stop him to play. (the Café Calls Status)

É, realmente, muito bom ouvir Toninho Horta. É um som transcedente, envolvente, falando diretamente à alma do indivíduo. Enfim, é o Brasil mostrando a cara; é Minas Gerais se esnobando.

I agree. Pat Metheny, though heavily influenced by Toninho, have different styles entirely. To me, it's just good to know that as great as Pat is, he's as humble as they come to be taught by a Brazilian jazz giant such as Mr. Horta himself...you gotta love it. I could go into more detail on my point, but I'm eating and listening....heh

Toninho is every bit as great in his way as Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, or Pat Metheny are in theirs. Everyone compares him to Metheny, but he actually has more in common with Mick Goodrick. They both play fingersyle and are more concerned with the quest for cool voicings and progressions than blazing single-note solos. |
