he removed the frets and they were filled in hence the fretless. its fretless if it has no frets...lines or not

I understand that this stuff might be really hard to do but it sounds like shit ...

Great bassist, but watching him makes me dizzy. He leans back and forth so much...

Sons, you're just jealous you can't play bass like him, he's super good at bass harmonics..
SonsUvBitches (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Even more amazing, he has the shitiest half-baked sound i've ever heard

It's a variation on a section from Portrait of Tracy. In fact, I think he doesn't even bust into PoT until then.

joronamo888 , Jaco's bass had lines where the frets were. Does that mean he doesn't play a true fretless? I always think that anybody that has to establish what a "real" man is, usually has no idea. Personally, I think it's more important to be a real musician.

If you think fretless is easier because of lower action (mine is the same as my fretted bass) and never dealing with fretwear (instead, it's fretboard wear), I think your missing the point. Fretless requires a more exact fingering and a trained ear. It also allows you to play micro-tonal scales. There are more options but that certainly doesn't make it easier. I've played bass for almost 30 years and just got my first fretless. It's not that it's harder, it's that it's a different instrument.

I know how you feel. Say anything negative about Jaco and you may get lynched. Personally, I think Jaco's technique, style, and sheer virtuosity are amazing, but I was never a huge fan of his jazzier fusion tinged jams. Even continuum is a little highbrow for me. I prefer his earlier work that is more R & B oriented. Those early chittlin' circuit grooves are killer. His Joni mitchel work is an awesome example as well.

does anyone know that line of harmonics he plays around 2:50??
