1st- Grandizing his mania and drug use is not showing respect. 2nd- Not everybody knows he was mentally ill. 3rd- When somebody 'important' dies, I remember mostly the good, but when their life is full of a pain that ultimately causes his downfall and death, it's hard to forget. Especially when people continually open the wounds with unthinking comments of how cool it was that he was 'wasted', whether he was or not.
Lastly, my comment wasn't for you specifically, so get over yourself.

we all know the thing that happened to him was horrific, but when someone important dies, you dont remember the bad things that had to do with them do you?

To anybody that thinks Jaco was stoned/high/crazy. Don't you realize that you're just perpetuating a misunderstanding about a HUMAN BEING'S MENTAL ILLNESS? Glorifying this poor man's illness with tales of excess does nothing but denigrate his image and hurt those around him. Every serious musician or compassionate human being should read Mary Pastorious's open letter to the public. Remember, your bass god was just a fragile human being. Some respect please.
