Amii Stewart was said to be the one to give Donna a run for her money. I love Donna Summer immensely. I have met her a few times and is quite a lady! However, I love Amii too and they both came out of musical theater in europe. Both are american...Donna from Boston and Amii from Washington, DC. I once emailed Amii over in Italy where she is a broadway performer and very famous.

The audience lacks a certain authentic enthusiasm, but for a playback show that wasn't even broadcast as it was taped (note the editing of several parts of the performance together, notably the cut bridge), the producers favored a chill aesthetic, popular in Germany at the time, as opposed to the rather stilted and awkward-looking dancing everymen of American Bandstand or earlier British shows. These German playback shows (Musikladen, Disco, PopRock, etc...) were all in a cabaret format anyway.

Jesus Christ they both were great, you can't compare apples and oranges. Both women should have had much longer careers.

well in your three posts you're asking why wasn't amii stewart as big a donna summer?
my posts attempt to explain why. and i admit, i'm a donna summer FAN.
no disrespect to stewart, but if you want to start comparing people to summer, the names ross, franklin, houston, gaynor, labelle are more appropriate.

Chill, man. I'm not saying Donna Summer didn't deserve her success, just that Amii Stewart didn't get as much as she should have.

There are Divas, and then there is Donna Summer.

Thats arguable - Donna Summer had the better songs but Amii was a better dancer and (IMO) very beautiful. |
