at first VK was indeed just a scene when X first got big any band that was dressing up crazy was visual but later it became a genre, when you speak of the style of music youre talking about the mid 90s up VK wich is when the sound was truely born and formed solidly,check out early luna sea then look at early lupata and then see how the indie bands after that and youll see how the style of music was formed and what its basic roots are.
it is deffinitly not pop rock though.
